Best practice: At the end of every project, Jeff conducts a post mortem with the homeowner. He asks three questions: What went well? What didn’t go well? and What didn’t happen that you would have liked to see? He then applies that feedback to his next job. These in-person meetings are usually at the client’s home and take about 30 minutes. Afterward, Jeff emails the client thanking them for taking the time to meet and summarizing what was said. At that point, he also asks for a referral or an online review.
Avenue B Development has been doing post mortems for about a year now and has made changes as a result of feedback. For example, after hearing that clients wanted more access to scheduling information and details about how their project was tracking against budget, Jeff began using Co-construct as a communication tool. Homeowners especially like the app.
