The scene at the Model Remodel 2024 jobsite has changed quite a bit since our last video. Here, Ryan Kelly, the leader of KHB Construction, discusses how, as a contractor, there's really two things that he looks for on any given jobsite. 

Safety

First is safety. "We want to make sure that our guys are in a situation where they feel comfortable," Kelly says. It's been reported that construction is one of the country's most hazardous industries, with 1 in 100 construction workers getting injured severely enough each year to require time off work.  

Quality

The other is quality work. "Here at KHB we want to do things right. That means quality installs and quality finishes," Kelly says. After discovering severe structural deficiencies on his own century-old home, he knew the right thing to do was deconstruct it all the way down. Among the major problems: A roof structure of old-growth 2x4 that was under engineered and a lack of footings. "There were actually no footings, it was just 100-year-old concrete poured on a very sandy substrate," he explains. He says they're keeping a decent amount of the field footings and tying those into newly poured footings.
