Welcome to remodeling mastery. Remodeling mastery is a podcast series that there actually is over 250 episodes over the last many, many years. What I try to do with these episodes is take a topic, topic or theme that I think is especially relevant to your world, and taking your remodeling business to the next level. For the last year, year and a half, many of the podcasts have been very focused on sales and marketing and how moving out of covid, we've really not had the tailwind that we had during covid, and how you have been able to adjust. This podcast is supported by my friends at professional remodeler as well as the associations, so I encourage you to go back, not only and look at the last couple of episodes, but also go back deeper if you, in fact, have a particular challenge, and look at some of the titles, they may help you. I think moving forward, the last two episodes, I think were especially popular Two episodes ago, I did a topic focused on q3 on third quarter, and the importance of q3 I think, in 2024 and without repeating some of the things. I encourage you to go back and maybe listen to that and then compare your notes of what you're doing in q3 as it relates to some of the tips and highlights in the last episode, I focused on the multiple hats that you wear as a remodeling expert, as a remodeling consultant with your clients, and I think the more that you really commit to, how do I get better at being a therapist? How do I get better at being an investment advisor? How can I take my marriage counselor skills to the next level? I think overall, you're going to create more value for the client. 

Today, I want to talk about a topic that is a little bit more of 1000-foot level. What's it all about? But it's also going to translate into some very one-foot level techniques, hopefully that'll help you not only feel a little bit better by the end of this podcast, but also give you some techniques that ultimately that feeling better can can go beyond I think it's very critical right now that you have a very healthy mindset. One of the common questions when I'm working with individual companies and individual leaders is, how are you feeling? You know what's whirling around in your head right now? And what's interesting is there's a lot whirling around in our head. And I think a lot of people, quite frankly, are feeling a little bit weary. They're feeling a little bit tired. Yeah, they're seeing some good results in some kind great results. However, the getting there is really, really tough. They're also feeling a level of stress. I even asked some buddy that I was working with, and I said, Give me an overall pulse of the team. And she said that, you know, I think people are just grumpy. You know, my friend Allison talks about, kind of the conditions being a little bit wonky, you know, all these things lead to an environment that I think, quite frankly, is a little bit difficult, I think, to to kind of think through and work through.

You know, I'm a big believer in, kind of going back and kind of reading a little adages and quotes when I'm feeling a certain way, and three of them that come to mind that I think are relevant to what I'm going to be talking about. Number one is, if you think you can or can't, you're right. I think how you are feeling about things moving forward. If you think you can accomplish, you can think you could hit the goal. You can think you can move the client along. Either way, you're going to be right. You know, there's a very large percentage of the folks that are having really good years, and then there's some that are having very poor years. And what separates, I think, the folks that can't can and are having a good year is, in fact, it's in their belief that this can be a good environment for them, as opposed to those that are struggling. They're blaming it on the elections. They're blaming it on the economy. They're blaming it on the marketplace.

You know, I think the more that you get in your head, that you're in control of where you're going, you just have to, first and foremost, believe that the second is a little adage that I heard that I really love, intentions without actions equal squat if you don't act on the things that you know are the right things to do. If you procrastinate and you put them off and you kick the can down the road, you probably, you probably. Probably are not going to have the outcome that you want. Intentions without actions equal squat. It's not about the intentions, it's not about the ideas. It's not about the desire. It's about the actions that you put into place with those good thoughts that ultimately give you the return. The third is one that's a simple formula, but it's one that I've certainly learned to live by. One of my associates, many years ago, shared this with me, and it really has hit a chord. And I've done many trainings as well as certainly podcasts. Even on this topic, it's a simple formula, A plus B equals R. The A is attitude, the B is behaviors, and the R is results. See, we tend to focus on the results, but we don't necessarily focus on how do we get to the results? You know, it all starts with having the right attitude. You've got to have be a positive thinker. You've got to be focused on having the right work ethic. You've got to realize that this is a team sport. It's not a solo sport. You've got to have that right attitude and mindset. But plus, you need the right behaviors. You need the right actions that you put into place, even if they're little one foot actions, collection of all those actions with the right attitude will give you, will give you the outcome and the results. Results are a product. Results are not a thing in themselves. So if you can focus on the A and you can focus on the B, chances are the results will follow.

So with all that being said, I talk about a lot your biggest competitor out there is your client. It's not necessarily other remodelers, other builders, other architects. It's the client themselves. So what do I mean by that? It's the client's fears. What are they afraid of that's going to keep them from doing remodeling? It's their ignorance. There's a lot of false positive and areas of ignorance that your clients have that ultimately, but also it's their overwhelm. You know, we're in an environment that we've filled the bucket up so much it's overflowing, and we're overwhelmed. And your competition out there is not just the project. It's not their fears and their ignorance alone, but it's also the fact they don't have space in their life for you, and that causes them to try to create voids and kick the can down the road. I would also take that a step further and translate that same theme into you are your biggest competition, I think, in terms of your success. So what do I mean? I mean it's your fears. Your fears in terms of the environment we're in. We don't know what is happening out there, what's around the corner in q4 so that creates a level of anxiousness and fears. It's your ignorance, ignorance about exactly what you should be doing, what your top three priorities are. How can you be a better leader? How can you be a better sales manager, how can you be better at things, quite frankly, if you're not investing the time, the energy into the knowledge that it takes to do this? But it's an also you're overwhelmed, just like with the clients, you're overwhelmed as well. You know, you're trying to fit 12 hours of activity in a 10 hour day, and it's not happening. You've got to focus on some of the behaviors that are trying to get your overwhelm in check if, in fact, you're going to be more successful. So with all that being said, rather than being an evangelist or being kind of at a pulpit here, just telling you about what the world is about and what your concerns are.

What I want to do today is give you three techniques, three strategies and tactics that allow you to address this. Now I've written about this in my time mastery book, in my how fit book, as well as in fit to grow books, so I encourage you to go back and look at some of those chapters. I also encourage you to go back and look at some earlier podcasts on this however, I will say, as a podcast, as an audio podcast, these techniques are visual, so I will try to walk you through the best I can. But I do think understanding them in a more visual form, more than just an audio form, is, in fact, much better. Okay, there's three. Number one is, how do you get your mojo back? So, so important. I'm going to unpack that a little bit more. Number two is how do you plan your day? Norm. Vincent Peale said, plan your day, today, every day, every day. Then work your plan. A plan is not just a to do list. To Do List is just that. And then number three is a technique I call a stress cloud. It's a way to reduce stress by thinking about it that way. So I'm going to talk about each one of these. Just spend a few minutes on each I encourage you to take some time and really think about them. And I think when you do, you're going to see better outcome and result.
