 A Leap of Faith:

There was a clear point in 2017 where I was getting large interior and exterior remodeling projects. The landscape company that I was working for was open to taking interior design jobs, but they didn’t have the resources to do both. I had this feeling it was the right time to start my own business, so I called my husband, who at the time was working as a manager at a five-star resort. I said, “I want to put my two weeks in today and open my own company”— just surprised him with it. And he said, “Do it.” Full support, no questions asked.

When I told the local contractors that I opened a company they were all extremely supportive, saying “Finally! We’ve been waiting for this.”

It was terrifying but also really exciting. I opened Deluxe Designs of Arizona and within six months he ended up resigning from his position to join the company because we were so busy. The timing was perfect. The relationships I gained with the trades and the information I’d learned made it a seamless transition. Just talking to people in the industry—the tradesmen and contractors locally—when I told them I opened a company they were all extremely supportive, saying “Finally! We’ve been waiting for this.” Their support made me feel like I wasn’t doing it alone.
