A Childhood Home Reborn

Not only is the Model ReModel a 1950s-era Mossman-Gladden home, likely Albuquerque, N.M.’s most iconic and well-known builder, but it’s also the homeowner’s childhood home. The homeowner inherited the property when her father passed in 2017. She knew it needed an update, but wished to retain its original spirit. Enter Dreamstyle Remodeling.

We specialize in taking a project from its very early stages of thought

Featuring new finishes, fixtures, shiplap details, and updated window installations, the remodel’s combination of small projects is a perfect fit for Dreamstyle Remodeling. “We specialize in taking a project from its very early stages of thought, refining it, massaging the details, and doing something spectacular,” Robert Blackwell, sales and design manager, says. The team has 75 years in combined experience and received “Best Body of Work” in Pro Remodeler’s 2018 Design Awards.

Updates include 11 new Impervia fiberglass windows by Pella, white, nickel-gap shiplap by UFP Edge, and a ProVia Signet fiberglass entry door with a matching ProVia DuraGuard storm door. The resulting improvements will help modernize the home, enhance its long-term performance, and improve livability, all while staying true to its original style and character.

A new durable front door

The Signet Fiberglass Entry Door by ProVia features a large, single clear-glass panel, aged-bronze hardware, and a Sandstone finish, which together create a neutral look suitable for the home’s roots and region.

Timeless shiplap for a classic look

Inside the entryway, the team is replacing dated wood paneling with wood shiplap accent walls using UFP Edge. The look will carry over into a single wall in the dining room, the den walls, and the den ceiling.  The shiplap comes in 6- and 8-inch widths and includes a ⅛-inch nickel gap edge. The panels are made with knot-free radiata pine. To ensure they stay straight and avoid cupping or warping, the panels are finger-jointed and edge glued.

New windows for efficiency and durability

Among the exterior enhancements planned for the Model Remodel is the replacement of 11 windows with Impervia fiberglass windows from Pella, which combine durability and an upscale look. Fiberglass windows offer the best of both worlds: an upscale look with the durability of vinyl, but at a lower price point than wood. While typical fiberglass windows are made with a random-fiber mat, Pella has a patented interlocking fiberglass mat, with glass rovings strategically woven for added strength and durability compared to a random-fiber configuration.
