E-mail Avalanche

April 1, 2001

When e-mail first became available, it seemed like the perfect solution to the disruption of a phone call. But frankly, you’ve got too much mail, right? Here are some tips for dealing with the excess in your inbox.

1. Don’t use your inbox as a catchall folder. Read each incoming message once take action - either delete it or move it to a project-specific subfolder.

2. Use "reply-to-all" and "CC" buttons sparingly.

3. Ask to be removed from distribution lists.

4. Use the "Out-of-Office" function on your e-mail when you are in the field or unavailable.
