Although the space was rather small, the homeowners insisted on dual vanities. To accommodate this, the vanities face each other on a half-wall, conserving circulation space, screening off the toilet area and creating a great architectural effect as the sinks' shared mirror-on-mirror gives the illusion of a single plane.
Beyond its clean lines, Jeff Lindgren, designer and project captain for Streeter & Associates, says this bathroom is a marvel given all of the amenities it offers in a relatively small space. The 129-square-foot bathroom has a whirlpool tub, a shower, his-and-her sinks, a walk-in closet and a toilet that's sectioned off by a half-wall.
Lindgren emphasized finding tile and fixtures that would complement the home's Art Moderne style yet also give the homeowners the contemporary look they wanted. Stark square, circular and rectangular detailing and planes of tempered glass intersecting with glass mosaic tiles help strike the right balance.
This $45,000 project, part of a 429-square-foot addition, earned a 2003 Remodeler of Merit Award from the Builders Association of the Twin Cities in the Detail Components category.
