NAHB Remodelers: The 2014 CADRE Awards

The annual Council Awards for Demonstrating Remodeling Excellence (CADRE) recognize the top National Association of Home Builders Remodelers councils and members whose efforts  demonstrate the best practices of the remodeling industry at the local level. This year, NAHB Remodelers presented seven CADRE Awards at an awards gala during the 2014 Remodeling Show  in Baltimore, commemorating the hard work of local councils and individuals across the nation.
 
Professional Remodeler sponsored the 2014 CADRE Awards, which were presented by NAHB Remodelers Chairman Paul Sullivan, CAPS, CGR, CGP, and our Editorial Director, Sal Alfano. They are considered to be NAHB Remodelers’ highest national awards for work at the local level. 
 
Oustanding Associate Member: Jennifer Wall, Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelers Council
Jennifer Wall joined the Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelers council Board in 2013, where she serves as co-chair of the special events committee. She was also recognized for her work in volunteer recruitment and organization and for managing the sponsorship and management process. An exceptional event planner, Wall is responsible for two fo the council's largest annual fundraising events. Her dedication to supporting the council in attracting new members and engaging inactive memebrs has been vital to the success of the council. 
 
Outstanding Council Coordinator: Lurenda Avery, Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders
Coordinator of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders Remodeleers Council from 2010 to 2014, Lurenda Avery was honored for her commitment to the council's meetings, working hard to ensure members are able to spend their time networking and learning at events. She worked with the board to host a workshop for younger members that focused on submitting quality entries to the Alabama Remodeling Excellence Awards (AREA). Her efforts paid off when three new remodelers submitted entries to the awards program and won, bringing a higher profile to the local council. 
 
Public Relations and Promotions: Remodelers Council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties
The council of the Master Builders Association of King and Snohomish Counties was honored for raising the profile of its members, particularly through a partnership with 425 magazine, a local publication covering the Eastside community in greater Seattle. A 20-page spread in the magazine, covering winners of the association's annual Remodeling Excellence (REX) Awards, boosted exposure for the council in 2014; a similar partnership is planned for 2015.
 
Community Service Project: Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelers Council
The Sonrise Homeless Shelter, one of the largest in Harris County in Texas, received a much-needed facelift from the Greater Houston Builders Association Remodelers Council in 2014. Work included new walls to the male dormitory, a new entryway, exterior repairs, and glazing work. The council's two-day remodel brought attention to the shelter, prompting a visit from the mayor of Houston.
 
Members Services and Education: Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga Remodelers Council
Recognized for member services and education, the Home Builders Association of Greater Chattanooga Remodelers Council hosts monthly leadership meetings for members, offering a series of speakers to help remodelers with their businesses. Speakers discuss varying topics of interest for memebrs, such as green remodeling, business management, and social media and website development. The series ensures members are updated on important issues, particularly within the community.
 
Membership Recruitment and Retention: Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders Remodelers
One of the Greater Birmingham Association of Home Builders Remodelers' popular events is the annual fish fry, a networking event for both non-members and established veterans of the council. The highly anticipated event brings together lcoal remodelers in the community, with members also serving as chefs, mcuh to the enjoyment of the council. This annual effort has proven to be successful in recruiting new members to the association. PR
