Productivity: Maintaining a Biological Work Schedule

Feb. 18, 2015

A project-based career such as remodeling gives the worker a lot of freedom to manage their priorities within a timeframe. For better productivity, schedule your day according to your body’s natural rhythm.

“The most important tasks should be conducted when people are at or near their peaks in alertness,” Christopher Barnes, an assistant professor of management at the University of Washington’s Foster School of Business, writes in the Harvard Business Review.

According to Barnes, based on our body’s natural circadian rhythm, alertness peaks within an hour or so of noon and 6 p.m. for most people. Times when alertness is lower, such as very early in the morning, around 3 p.m., or late at night, can be used to do the least important tasks.
