Wondering which cities are enjoying the most remodeling action? BuildFax, a national data source for property condition, offers some answers with its list of the top 20 U.S. cities for residential remodeling.
According to the data company, the number of residential remodeling jobs across the nation increased by 9 percent between December 2014 and December 2015, and has increased by 40 percent since 2010.
Taking its place at the top of the list for the third year in a row is Colorado Springs, Colo., where nearly 15 percent of homes were remodeled last year. Though the city experienced a 5 percent decrease in remodeling activity from 2014, it’s still the leading metropolis for residential remodelers.
One remodeling company in Colorado Springs reaping the benefits of this demand is DreamMaker Bath & Kitchen. The company has experienced a significant increase in remodeling projects per year, according to office manager Julie Fitzgerald. Previously averaging 25 to 30 jobs annually, the full-service remodeling company finished 2015 with 52 total projects and is looking forward to further increasing its business in the next few years.
“We’re on track to do 70 to 75 jobs this year,” Fitzgerald says, adding that DreamMaker is booked for project through the spring. “Now we’re really focusing on hiring the right people to keep those jobs running smoothly.”
BuildFax calculated the list using a proprietary database composed of more than 23 billion data points of construction records, looking at the 100 most populous cities in the U.S. and the number of residential remodeling projects per household in those cities.
