Gender Wage Gap Shrinking

Aug. 31, 2016

Second-quarter median weekly earnings for women remodelers are more than 3.6 percent higher than earnings for men, according to the latest data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics. Weekly wages for women who work in installation, maintenance, and repair occupations totaled $848, compared with $818 for men in the same category.

BLS data show that weekly earnings for women rose by more than 40 percent compared with the second quarter of 2015, while men’s weekly earnings fell by about 2 percent during the same time period. Although the wage gap appears to be shrinking, men still far outnumber women in the construction and remodeling industries.
