Following a kitchen fire that resulted in extensive smoke and water damage, the floorplan and design elements of this home were revamped to create an open layout filled with natural light and better aligned with the homeowners’ current lifestyles as empty nesters.
The original locations of the kitchen and living room were flipped, and a new master suite and guest room configuration were created, requiring the relocation of plumbing lines throughout the house. Walls between the kitchen, dining, and living rooms were removed and windows added, opening the layout and bringing in natural light. The open stairwell near the front entry required new structural supports within the walls. The ceilings of the catwalk were subsequently raised and a floor added over the previously open entryway to create a new lounge space.
