To best utilize the original flat roof system of this 1940s home while adding space needed by the clients for their growing family, the team constructed a second level directly on top of the flat roof. Once completed, the rafters of the original roof were removed and the main level remodel began.
The existing structural perimeter block walls were only 8 feet tall, so the team created taller ceilings on the main level by installing 24-inch LVL beams directly atop the walls where the second-level floor trusses would bear. This established the 10-foot ceilings and taller windows and doors that were requested by the clients.
