When my wife and I turned our attention to remodeling our own home, we finally got the luxury of being both the clients and the homeowners, and getting to choose all our materials ourselves.

Specifically, we really wanted to utilize the best in innovative products and installation processes available today. When it came time to do our decking, the product that fit the bill was the MoistureShield Vision capped wood composite decking.

By the time we got around to the project, the cabin was very dated and needed updated materials and a design refresh. We didn’t want to end up with a too-modern cabin, so we worked to blend rustic and modern elements. Vision worked perfectly to that end.

Not surprisingly, the old deck was full of splinters, so we made sure to replace it with a composite to avoid the same issues down the road.

The innovation came in two parts: first, MoistureShield’s CoolDeck technology. On a hot day, a deck in direct sunlight can reach temps of up to 160°F; CoolDeck helps reduce surface temps by up to 35%. Now, no more splinters and no more burning the soles of your feet.

Second, Vision is protected by the company’s DiamondDefense coating, which creates a cap that resists moisture and ultimately reduces maintenance. This is great for any deck, but particularly for our lake house’s dock, it helps us not worry about damage from splash-overs during high water periods.-
