COVID-19: One Remodeling Marketer Outlines Her Plan

PR: How are you handling marketing during the COVID-19 pandemic?
MM: We are doubling down on the places where people’s eyes are right now: Television and social media. A lot of homeowners are watching more TV because of the news, and everyone is on social media trying to get news and information. Our Facebook sweepstakes campaign has been a lifesaver.
We’ve also beefed up our door-knocking team because more people are home than ever before. That happened yesterday—we got 14 people hired and trained in 24 hours. They are high school students who aren’t in school right now. I sent letters to each of their parents so the families would feel comfortable.
MM: Our new hires are wearing disposable gloves to the door in addition to the yellow vests that we use for canvassing. It’s for safety, but also to show the customer that we’re taking precautions. Everyone on the team is required to take their temperature every morning and send in the reading before we will give them any appointments. They have to sanitize and clean all samples before and after they are in the customer’s home. I was also thinking that if I can find enough hand sanitizer, I’d like everyone to carry some in their pockets and offer it to the customer.
You have to adapt and overcome, or the only other option is going out of business. That’s not acceptable.
