How Power Home Remodeling Kept Furloughed Employees' Spirits High

July 1, 2020

The pandemic forced Power Home Remodeling to furlough 85 percent of its workforce. But the story didn't end there for the company's 2,200 employees waiting to come back to work. Power Home Remodeling developed innovative ways to keep in touch with employees and bolster morale despite the unfortunate circumstances, and it worked. According to the Washington Post, 95 percent of employees polled externally by Energage are ethusiastic to return to Power Home Remodeling and 96 percent have felt supported during the crisis—even after furloughing thousands of employees, the industry giant somehow escaped a hoard of scorned employees.

Talent shows, employee-led cooking classes, and wellness programs

The trick to the company's success seems to be that it transcended lip-service crisis communications by creating a multi-prong network of engagement through weekly virtual town halls, wellness programs, speaker series, and an American Idol-style talent show with cash prizes. This in-depth approach is not completely new to the pandemic, however. The company has consistently been ranked as a top work place, and employees have historically given it high marks on engagement.

Learn more at the Washington Post about how a strong company culture gave Power Home Remodeling and other top companies the framework to support furloughed employees during the pandemic.
