 How One Interview Changed Everything: 

My background is scriptwriting for a production company. I’ve applied those skills to home improvement. Creating captivating headlines and lead-generating copy my specialty. It’s why I love direct mail, our no. 1 lead source.  Before I started with Energy Swing, I applied for several jobs but was most impressed by how owner Steve Rennekamp conducted himself. He is very ethical—and in this industry that matters. One of the things I told him—I was bold, and still am—is that his website wasn’t very good. Steve was intrigued.


Truth be told, I had no idea how to rebuild the website; but I knew I could learn.


That’s the kind of guy he is—he will listen, even when it’s criticism. In the same interview, I claimed I could rebuild the Energy Swing website. Truth be told, I had no idea how to rebuild the website; but I knew I could learn. I taught myself at night how to design and code a pretty in-depth website, probably 400 pages. I started on it and in three months got the job done, but it wasn’t easy. In life, you have to have confidence in what you’re doing. Sometimes I fail, but that’s ok. Learn from it and move on.
