Pro Remodeler has collected emails, interviews, comments, and official correspondence to create a timeline detailing the months-long dispute between NARI National and a coalition of local chapters.
Central to the conversation between NARI National and the concerned local chapters are increased dues, elimination of funds, barriers to national involvement, a leaked email from NARI National Board Chairman Doug King, and a claimed lack of transparency between NARI National and local chapters. So far, two chapters have disaffiliated from NARI National: EM NARI by choice, and NARI Metro DC by way of a NARI National Board vote, from which certain Metro DC-affiliated board members were recused. The disaffiliation of the Metro DC chapter has lead to one of the latest developments: Michael Sauri's June 4 resignation as the Government Affairs Committee Chair and NARI National Board Member. Sauri, owner of TriVistaUSA Design + Build, was an active Metro DC NARI member since 2006 and received the Peter H. Johnson Image Award from NARI National in 2019.
Rob King, marketing director of NARI National, notes that each local NARI chapter operates as an independent business enterprise. "This is not the first time a local chapter has separated from NARI," King says. "There have been times that local chapters have disaffiliated and some have later reaffiliated with NARI. When a chapter disaffiliates, the chapter members can become at-large members and will continue to receive full national benefits."
