Projected 2023 Revenue: $5.5 million
On taking the company to the next level: The business was formed in 2014. We were doing anything and everything for the company, and I’d say in probably 2018, we hired a business coach. What helped us improve was working with other remodelers within his forum. That’s when our company started the path of better, more sustainable growth. We’ve been making improvements since using a system called EOS. We doubled our company size, solved problems, and grew our employees.
Best business innovation: We priced our work like most other contractors: materials, labor, mark that up to cover our overhead and everything else. But what happens with all these material prices going up is that our markup is drastic—but expenses didn’t necessarily skyrocket. It made it very difficult to win projects. We looked at it from a time-based approach we called capacity pricing. We found that we were not covering our time for certain projects through a markup method. We charge for our time. And the benefit to the customer is that we want them to have a beautiful house, but that’s not going to change our price. It helps us be competitive with larger projects. We use what’s called good, better, best price. They go through design, our estimator gets involved and we project how many weeks it’s going to take. Every week we go over, we give them $100 back. From June 2022 and before, we were at $160,000 average project size. From July through December, we were at $225,000 average project size. It helped us win more of those larger projects.
