Business model: Both me and my business partner are realtors as well. I started in the design side and brought on the knowledge of becoming a realtor afterward. What that’s allowed us to do is offer a little bit more information to our homeowners. Since we do residential remodels, we can come across homeowners that aren’t sure what they want to do. Do they want to stay? Do they want to find a new home? We want to satisfy the wants of the homeowner, but we’re also able to provide a little bit more guidance with relating to the value of their homes.
Best business innovation: My business partner and I actually started working together on a television show, “Love It or List It.” In that process, those homeowners had to relinquish all design control. So with doing that, we wanted to make sure that we’re in line with their goal. I learned that there are some homeowners, of course, that know exactly what they want, but there’s many that want the design help, they just don’t know exactly how to communicate that and how to get there. I created an interactive design questionnaire to help our company learn the homeowners’ style. This allows us to streamline the selection process. Between the questionnaire, and visual references, I’m able to condense that design process so that it’s not going to every location for hours on end and kind of overwhelming homeowners with all the options.
