Project Manager

Most significant source of pride: The relationships I have built with clients and trades. As a project manager, the tools that are in your tool bag are really your subcontractors or the people that you have working around you. You’re always collaborating with different people to make things happen. Occasionally, you have to call in favors and if they know you care about them, they’re probably going to take care of you. At the end of the day, the relationships I’ve built here are what make me the happiest.
Advice for young professionals: Learn. Consume as much information related to your craft as possible. Read books, listen to podcasts, and ask questions. The beauty of custom remodeling/construction is that each project is different. Each project comes with its own challenges, and while often frustrating, it helps you grow with each hurdle you encounter.
Every person you come across is able to teach you something, especially when you’re a general contractor and working with subs who are experts in their specific trades. You should always try to expand your knowledge base.
