Shingle Color of the Year 2024 Announced by Owens Corning
Owens Corning has selected Williamsburg Gray as its 2024 Shingle Color of the Year. This shingle design combines slate grays, volcanic black shades, and earthy browns to offer what the roofing manufacturer says is a “timeless color statement on a home’s roof”.
Williamsburg Gray has evolved from a popular regional color choice for homeowners in the southeastern U.S. to a more prominent national selection. This uptick in demand may be the result of Owens Corning making modern adjustments to the color design to ensure that it appeals to more people all across the country.
“The updates to this classic color allowed us to integrate warm earthen tones to offer homeowners a comprehensive portfolio of gray shingles that look as striking on a California bungalow as on a Midwestern modern farmhouse or traditional East Coast estate home,” said senior marketing leader and senior color expert at Owens Corning, Sue Burkett.
The company has collected feedback from consumers and contractors that indicates homeowners want a shingle that performs well in any weather while also enhancing curb appeal.
Last year’s Shingle Color of the Year, Midnight Plum, was the industry’s first purple-forward shingle, but several shades of gray were essential to creating the finished look. Burkett believes gray will be used in unique ways to help pull together multiple elements of a home’s exterior.
“We understand that color is a powerful tool for self-expression and preferences range from mild to wild,” said Burkett. “While Williamsburg Gray is indeed a traditional shade, the undertones evoke the sense of timelessness seen in nature.”
