TimberHP Wood Fiber Insulation

I first heard about TimberHP almost two years ago, and it’s a remarkable, feel-good product that combines high performance with an inspiring story.

It’s a wood fiber insulation crafted primarily from upstream recycled scrap from lumber production, spruce and pine wood chips. The team revitalized an old paper mill in Madison, Maine to manufacture this product, breathing new life into the community while offering a high-quality, locally sourced option for New England.

Wood fiber insulation has been trusted in Europe for over 20 years, and I was excited to bring its benefits to our high-performance projects. Unlike some insulations, TimberHP repels moisture, enhancing durability.

Liquid Borate is used to address fire, bugs, and mold, making it a competitive choice alongside products like mineral wool, all at a comparable price point.

One of the major strengths is its versatility. We used the blown-in version for two homes, and the installers are thrilled. There’s no irritating white dust, and it leaves a subtle pine scent. The product packs densely and offers excellent soundproofing.

A building inspector even commented on the noticeable difference, calling it “incredible.”

Looking forward, TimberHP plans to launch a board version in 2025 for continuous exterior insulation, and they’re aiming to expand with another mill in the West.

TimberHP’s insulation delivers reliable R-value, impressive soundproofing, and moisture resistance, all while using reclaimed materials and supporting the revival of a Maine town. It’s truly a product that aligns with our values and high-performance building goals.
