Growth: We expect a strong 2025 on the back of lower interest rates and growth in home equity. Adding outdoor living is a cost-effective way to increase the usable space of a home, and we expect double-digit growth, with some regions seeing up to 20%, like Southern California and Texas. After a post Covid shift toward smaller projects, we’re now seeing a rebound in larger jobs.
Challenges: For the predominant work we do – pavers, decking, and turf – labor has always been a challenge, and I don’t see that changing in the immediate future. If the industry continues to generate a lot of value for homeowners over the longer term, I think we’ll start to see a labor shortage turnaround over the next few years.
Advice: We have a saying, ‘Sales solves all problems,’ so as long as we’re selling, we’re in a good spot. However, operations is what makes the money, so focusing on making sure your back office, front of house, and customer service pull through effectively so that all of the great work your sales folks are doing generates solid gross profit. So, it’s not just sales solves all problems, but you need to be able to take that sale and turn it into profit. I think most of us could always spend more time, effort, and energy in continuing to drive profitability within the business.
Vibe: A wholistic approach
