James Cregger, 37
Owner, Rock Creek Builders; Blue Ribbon Residential Construction, Raleigh metro area, N.C.
2025 projected revenue: $12 mil
Cregger became a business owner in his mid-twenties “with nothing more than a pickup truck,” he says. Fast forward to today, and he’s overseeing a team of 14 across two offices. A big part of that growth happened in 2024 when Cregger acquired Blue Ribbon Residential Construction from a fellow member of his local NAHB Remodelers Council. Blue Ribbon was a well established business with high-quality referral leads. The move not only doubled his revenue, it also brought in a new perspective that proved helpful. “The company we acquired was very process driven, and...we had the opportunity to come in and acquire those processes overnight,” he recalls. Now that both companies are fully integrated, Cregger has seen design and production timelines decrease, and significant growth in efficiency overall.
Ten-Year Vision: Cregger’s goal is to be able to step back from the day-to-day tasks and become more focused on growth strategies and business acquisition. Given his current trajectory, that may happen a whole lot sooner than a full decade. Cregger has team members in place overseeing operations and construction as well as a sales and design consultant who handles half of the sales. “They really help steer the boat,” he says.
