Chaney always had a passion for building and renovating, so when he found himself unfulfilled in a financial industry job and saw an ad for a project manager, he volunteered to work for free to prove himself. “I like the art and the design behind the build,” he says. Chaney rose quickly, and over the past seven+ years, he has become partner. Among his greatest accomplishments, he cites helping grow the Alair Arlington brand, doubling revenue since joining, and training their PMs to become industry leaders. Currently, his team handles 15-20 projects annually.
Challenge: Last year, Chaney found that more clients were putting projects on hold or backing out completely due to the uncertain economy leading up the election, so he worked to focus more on building a strong pipeline and to keep selling as the way to move forward.
Don’t Just Communicate: Chaney says that talking with clients and trades people about what’s happening is key, and he wants to leave nothing to doubt. “There are a lot of moving parts in the building world, and I always think it’s better to over communicate to avoid any misunderstanding,” he says. “It’s a very emotional thing because people are probably spending the most money they’re ever going to spend in their lives on this.”
