As a business leader, Raab has two notable superpowers: He learns and he teaches. “Ever since I was a little kid, I’ve always wanted to improve. I don’t believe that I am an out-of-the-box thinker or innovator, but what I do well is read a lot and learn from other people who have done this before,” he says.
Listening to Experts: Raab is a true student of all things remodeling. An avid reader who frequently listens to podcasts while in his truck, he’s found great value in industry resources such as Remodelers Advantage, Mark Richardson, and various contractor-specific podcasts. He’s traveled to visit successful businesses across the country and peppered them with questions on how they address some of the issues he faces.
Passing it On: On the teaching side, Raab is just as active and committed. One of his goals is to provide his team members with opportunities for growth, so he formed a group within Pinnacle Homes called The Leadership Table. Team members meet once a month and discuss a book they are all reading together—currently it’s John Maxwell’s The 21 Irrefutable Laws of Leadership. “I’m hoping that it becomes a natural thing where, if we have a problem we start thinking like a leader to try to solve it,” he says.
