Kyle Landis, 30
Director of Marketing, Landis Architects | Builders, DMV region
While working in merchandising operations for the e-commerce giant, Wayfair, in Boston, Landis realized he wanted to make a change and join the family business back in D.C. However, he first had to complete a number of daunting tasks. This included proving himself to the founders (his father and uncle), creating a proposal, and working part-time for Landis in his off hours while keeping his day job. “I wanted to go above and beyond to overcome any perceived bias,” he says. It worked, and Landis joined the family business full-time in 2019.
Leading with Inspiration: “My philosophy in marketing is to lead with inspiration.” Landis says. That means capturing great project photos and turning social media into a company portfolio that can stand on its own. Consequently, Landis is seeing a significant uptick in viewer engagement. A new website and a more focused social media presence have also been transformative.
Business Innovation: Landis is the architect of a new performance review program, which has improved morale, alignment around core values, and retention. He introduced new software, and changed the review timeframe from a rolling process based on start date to an annual process, and created a new framework of questions and rating scale.
