Katelyn Reynolds, 29

Project Manager, Nicholas Design Build, Greater Indianapolis area

Reynolds’ design-build story began in 2016 when she became a carpenter in a small town in Indiana. She loved the industry and was inspired by social media influencers who shared her passion for the craft of construction. “I’m young in the industry and have much to learn,” Reynolds says. “But when you have a learner’s heart, I’ve found that people will just kind of throw things at you and see if it sticks.”

Joy of PM-ing: Reynolds counts it an honor to be tasked with understanding and executing a designer’s plans, educating clients on the process, and helping carpenters and trade partners execute with a high degree of accuracy. “I have the ability to make someone’s forever home or their childhood home,” she says. “I get to play a part in that and there’s joy there.”

Bridging the Gap: Reynolds has worked hard to strengthen the ties between production and design, and brings a cooperative spirit to all interactions. She knows the importance of communication and embraces the tenet: “The more we understand each other’s role, the better we become as a team.” At any time, at the top of her mind, are four principles of communication: 1) Keep Current, 2) Attack the Problem, Not the Person, 3) Always Be Honest and 4) Act, Don’t React.
