Deck boards, whether made of hardwood, softwood, composite, or PVC, will shift with changing moisture. Nova USA Wood Products’ new patented line of ExoDek QuickClip hidden fasteners was made to respond and adjust naturally to deck movement.
Natural hardwood decking boards expand and contract with changing humidity levels, and composite boards shift when temperatures go up and down repeatedly. A typical deck board can expand up to ¼”—it’s a common trouble spot when using concealed fasteners. Other hidden fasteners secure one portion of the board while leaving the other deck boards free to move.
With the ExoDek QuickClip, deck boards will be returned into place, spaced out correctly, and securely fastened to the joist automatically when any shifting does occur. They also reduce the possibility of uneven spacing, loose or damaged boards, and remove the need for screws, according to the company. The ExoDek QuickClip provides an ⅛” bench to allow airflow between the joist and boards to ensure proper moisture mitigation.
Nova USA Products says this release comes from years of scientific testing and has a limited lifetime warranty. Made from glass fiber reinforced Nylon, the hidden fasteners work well for high-end wood such as Ipe, Batu, Cumaru, Tigerwood, and Mahogany. These hidden fasteners are made to work with 5/4x4 and 5/4x6 boards with groove centered in height and work with 1x4, 1x6, 2x4, and 2x6 with grooves offset.
