The largest custom building and remodeling franchise Alair Homes welcomed its 100th franchise last week, the former Carbon Design Build in Alexandria, Va., which is now Alair Alexandria.

Carbon became the third Virginia location for British Columbia-based Alair, which has locations in 13 states and five Canadian provinces. The other two locations are Alair Arlington and Alair Hunt Country. CEO Blair McDaniel founded Alair in 2007 in his mid-20s, and the company began franchising in 2012.

Alair Alexandria Partner Matt Bieschke ran Carbon Design Build for 10 years prior to joining Alair.

“Matt Bieschke and his team bring a wealth of experience and a strong commitment to quality and community that perfectly aligns with Alair's values,” said Rob Cecil, president of Alair, in the official release. “This partnership will not only elevate the home building and remodeling experience for homeowners in Alexandria and the surrounding areas but also strengthen our collective impact in supporting local charities and making a positive difference in the communities we serve."

The franchise works in a model where the franchise approaches and interviews established remodelers and builders, rather than opening new businesses. Typically locations then undergo a rebrand with a new name. Partners retain 100% ownership of their business, according to Alair.
