Start in the industry: I was 25 and working as an apprentice carpenter. My wife and I had bought a fixer-upper and I wanted to start a business. I studied to obtain my builder’s license while working and fixing up the home. We had OSB subfloor throughout the house because we couldn’t afford to buy flooring while saving for a truck. Finally, I took the leap and quit my job. Fast forward seven years and we have a full retail showroom, design staff, and fleet of equipment.
Best innovation: I continually work to implement processes that systemize our business and make clients happy. These include a detailed, documented product selection process, a pre-construction checklist, our What to Expect document, branded project timelines, weekly update emails for all clients with jobs under construction, daily production lists for our in-house carpenters, and a checklist that shows we’ve mailed a handwritten thank you card to each client before moving their file into the “done” filing cabinet.
