Best Practice: As the point person for one of the largest builder/remodelers in the Twin Cities area, Wenkus is a rising star. In addition to running Gonyea Companies’ remodeling division, he’s also responsible for decision-making in all of the subsidiary entities of the vertically integrated firm. His key to success: having the right people for the right jobs. The remodeling division is the company’s newest segment, and Wenkus was given the challenge of growing it into a $6 million entity. His first step: Assemble a great team. To that end, he formed an advisory board of industry stakeholders including a retired home builder, an accountant specializing in construction, a business consultant, and other professionals. The strategy worked, with the remodeling division well on its way to meeting its goal. And the professional advisors have become like mentors to Wenkus.
