Communication between contractors and designers is critical to keeping a job on schedule. Here’s how to open the lines of communication:
Contractors should inform designers of any technical problems that might increase price as soon as orders are placed.
Designers should clearly spell out three or four options to allow for product
variation.
Have each party define all technical terminology in writing, to avoid confusion.
Review mock-ups and drawdowns together, so designers and contractors are on the same page.
Schedule work on the jobsite carefully, and be prepared for cost increases when schedules stack.
Take an interest in each other’s disciplines.
Show respect for one another’s unique skills and talents
Share information freely.
