Called the Construction Business Owner Education and Peer Group Program, it's co-founders are two former remodeling contractors, Shawn McCadden and Mark Paskell, both of whom are experienced industry trainers and educators. The program is targeting local Boston-area businesses with annual volume in the range of $750,000 to $1.2 million.

A new education program aimed at small remodeling contractors is set to open its doors Monday, March 2 in Bedford, Mass. It's called the Construction Business Owner Education and Peer Group Program, or "CBO," as co-founders Shawn McCadden and Mark Paskell refer to it. The program is targeting local Boston-area businesses with annual volume in the range of $750,000 to $1.2 million, which according to McCadden is often the point at which remodeling company owners "know they need help, but aren’t so invested in home-grown system that they fight to preserve them."

McCadden and Paskell, both former remodeling contractors and experienced speakers, trainers, and educators, intend to provide an immersive educational experience during a 4-month semester. Admission requirements are rigorous as well, which for starters includes MA HIC registration and MA CSL (for contractors doing business in Mass.), RRP Certification, and evidence of GL/WC insurance.

As for the "peer group" component, it's intended to connote the interactive nature of the twice-monthly meetings. "We'll meet for 4 hours each time in in a classroom setting, but it won't be lectures," McCadden says. "The contractors will be interacting with each other, and will have assignments that they will share with each other. Our goal is to teach these guys how to learn and how to use the information."

The program costs $3,750, which includes 5 hours of one-on-one coaching, and is capped at 20 participants because of space limitations on the campus of Middlesex Community College where classes will be conducted. For more information, go to www.betterremodeler.com.
