Treehugger reports that researchers at the University of Technology Sydney have developed a roof coating that absorbs less sunlight and makes the roof colder than surrounding air.
The roof is made out of a coated polymer stack, a combination of polyesters on a silver layer that is applied to the roof surface.
According to the researchers, the invention can help keep energy use down in individual buildings, and super cool roofs could have a major impact on the urban heat island effect.
