When it comes to living off the grid, residents of Hawaii may be the most well-versed. The high price per kilowatt hour in the Aloha State – more than twice the average U.S. price – is reason enough to get off the grid.
MarketWatch spoke with several Hawaiian homeowners with their own battery and solar panel systems to find out what unique issues they face.
Initial costs are a big burden and often discourage homeowners from making the choice to go solar. Additionally, modern appliances are needed, so revamping a home to use renewable energy sources can mean having to buy new appliances as well.
