To construct a “crisp” looking space, especially when building in a transitional or contemporary style, contractor Matt Risinger says Laminated Strand Lumber should be your stud of choice.
“There is no cull in the stack, no crowning, and very little frame checking before sheetrock to ensure flat walls,” Risinger writes.
He gives 4 reasons why he prefers engineered LSL studs: They create modern houses with smooth drywall; tall walls in great rooms and 2-story spaces won’t warp; they are strong and straight enough for cabinetry- and tile-intensive spaces; and they reduce SR callbacks and warranty work.
