New research from NAIMA concludes that an estimated 9 out of 10 U.S. homes are under-insulated.
Based on the 2009 Residential Energy Consumption Survey, the study estimates that if all homes were insulated to meet the 2012 IECC, electricity use would drop by 5% nationwide, and natural gas use would decline by 10%.
“People don’t see insulation, so they don’t think about it," says Curt Rich, President and CEO of NAIMA. "They see windows and doors so they think about those items. The reality is that insulation has a three times greater impact on the average home’s energy and comfort than windows or doors do."
