NARI Updates Universal Design Certification

The National Association of the Remodeling Industry announced this week that in early 2021 it will introduce a comprehensive update to its Universal Design Certified Professional (UDCP) certification.

"The certification board reviewed the current remodeling environment and made recommendations and changes to standards for business and building science to reflect the current environment remodelers work in," said NARI Director of Marketing Megan Mccullough. The new UDCP certification update will reflect those new standards.

To prepare remodelers for the update, the Association's Education Committee last year developed a UDCP study guide based on those new standards, according to McCullough.

Achieving 2020 Goals

The announcement aligns with a strategy NARI CEO David Pekel laid out in an exclusive interview with Pro Remodeler earlier this month, in which he said the Association was going to refocus this year on it's three supporting pillars—the first two of which being "certification" and "education."

In the statement announcing the UDCP update, Pekel reiterated his intention to increase certification efforts.

Stated Pekel: "While some organizations are eliminating certifications, we expect to see a continued year-over-year increase of twenty percent in the number of certifcations earned and awarded to NARI members."
