A Common Theme: 2022 Colors of The Year

One of the ways you know it’s fall is that paint companies reveal their upcoming color of the year. Two popular picks are selections from Sherwin-Williams and Benjamin Moore whose carefully chosen hues are designed to represent the national mood. Also notable is the bold selection from Pantone, the standard-setter for color and trend prediction worldwide.

Sherwin-Williams’ Evergreen Fog SW 9130

“When our team and I chose this color, we knew... people are seeking nourishing, healing, meaningful colors with strong associations to nature,” said Sue Wadden, Sherwin-Williams’ director of color marketing in a company interview. “[Evergreen Fog’s]  undertone is neutral, which makes it usable in all kinds of environments. So, it’s not like a verdant or in-your-face green. It doesn’t look like a mossy green or an avocado green. It’s softer, more subtle, and more sophisticated — and it goes well with almost everything.”

Benjamin Moore’s October Mist 1495

Also in the green family is Benjamin Moore’s selection. When company officials met virtually to choose the lucky color, every person in attendance showed up with a shade of green, according to Andrea LaConte-Magno, director of color marketing and development. “Every shade of the green family was represented in what we’d gathered, from deep hunters to the palest sages,” she stated in an interview with Business of Home. “It was a clear signal that we were being drawn to colors that were grounded yet whimsical. We knew that the Color of the Year would be in the green category.”

Pantone’s 17-3938 Very Peri

Pantone has selected 17-3938 Very Peri as its color of the year. According to Pantone, the color displays carefree confidence that animates our creative spirit. “As we move into a world of unprecedented change, the selection of 17-3938 Very Peri brings a novel perspective and vision of the trusted and beloved blue color family, encompassing the qualities of the blues, yet at the same time with its violent red undertone, 17-3938 Very Peri displays a spritely joyous attitude and dynamic presence that encourages courageous creativity and imaginative expressions,” said Executive Director of the Pantone Color Institute, Leatrice Eiseman.
