Float

Float is one of those things that once you start using it, you don’t know how you did without it.

Float does three big things for me: runs our project schedules, ensures that the right clients get billed for the right hours, and that the right people get paid for those hours. Float is a scheduling software for teams who need to keep close track of their time.

We use Float every day in three of the most important areas of our business: payroll, invoicing, and resource allocation. It also allows me to forecast my resources and team’s availability beyond current projects. It’s easy to see where gaps are for my sales team to make new sales and for my production team to start new projects.

We’re a time and materials builder, so if you’re someone that needs to track everything you’re doing, or if you need to run job costing reports, you need to be confident in how much time your team spends on each job, down to the task.

Integration with other software is one of the first things I look for when evaluating new software. We use many different applications, so for me, interoperability is the key. No matter how great the application is, it is far less useful to me if it doesn’t communicate with the core software on which I run my business. For some that is QuickBooks or Sage. For me, that is Xero.

Deploying it in the field was easier than I expected it to be. Float is by far the best resource scheduling software we’ve ever used, and our team has a level of visibility into our production schedule we never had before.
