How to Create Better Marketing Videos

The home improvement industry is severely lacking in quality video content on social media feeds and on websites. And I think the reason for that is most of us aren't professional on-camera talent, right? And we're nervous about getting on camera or putting ourselves out there.

How Home Improvement Companies Use Makeshift Teleprompters

In my experience as a director of marketing in the home improvement industry in the past, one of the things we'd always try to do to get videos created was set up a fake (makeshift) teleprompter around the room somewhere. We'd have a script written on a laptop, and we'd stack the laptop on books behind the camera.

We’d never feel good about how we looked because our eyes would be all over the place–not looking into the camera like we should have been. Or we would be reading cue cards from behind the camera and our eyes would be visibly scrolling across the room. And we’d sound monotone because we’re not professionals.

New Technology Makes It Easier to Record High-Quality Videos

But here's how you can make good videos and deliver them with conviction and confidence.

Download the Teleprompter For Video app on your phone. You can then go into that app, type in a script, or upload it from a Word document right into the app. And as you record a video on your phone, the words will scroll down the side right where you look into the camera, and you’ll be able to read it with ease and have confidence in delivering key information to your customers online.

In his new video series called Marketing Minute, director of home improvement Drew Barto will share tips designed to help contractors grow their businesses and boost their bottom lines. This was a transcript of the first episode of the series. You can watch the full video here.
