Bill Owens, a Worthington, Ohio-based remodeler and home builder with more than 40 years of experience in the residential construction industry, was elected as the 2023 third vice chairman of the National Association of Home Builders (NAHB) during the association’s International Builders’ Show (IBS) in Las Vegas.
With this election, Owens becomes the first person elected to NAHB’s senior officer team for whom remodeling is the primary business. Owens is also the first person on NAHB’s officer team to have previously served as chairman of NAHB Remodelers, formerly known as the NAHB Remodelers Council. He will serve as NAHB chairman in 2026.
“As the voice of the housing industry, we must listen to our members and make the changes necessary to remain strong and relevant,” Owens said. “We need to dig deep on the question: What is the value of our association? NAHB must be agile, dynamic, imaginative, and innovative to create an adaptable federation that stands the test of time.”
Owens is president of Owens Construction, a leading residential design-build firm in central Ohio that he established in 1982. The company completes 30 to 40 projects a year with a focus on energy-efficient technology, and creating welcoming home environments.
He brings NAHB’s leadership team an impressive resume, having served as chairman of the Home Builders Institute, the NAHB Leading Suppliers Council, and The New American Home and The New American Remodel Task Forces, as well as the NAHB Remodelers Council. He has also led six different NAHB committees, served as vice chairman of the Home Innovation Research Labs, as an NAHB state representative, and as NAHB National Area 6 chairman.
Active in the Building Industry Association of Central Ohio, Owens served on its Board of Trustees from 1998 to 2005. He was named the association’s Remodeler of the Year three times, and recognized as Builder of the Year in 2009. He is a longtime member of the Ohio Home Builders Association’s Board of Trustees and served as president of the Ohio HBA in 2011.
Alicia Huey, a Birmingham, Ala.-based custom home builder was elected NAHB’s 2023 chairman of the board. Also moving up the association’s leadership ladder was Carl Harris, a Wichita, Kan.-based home builder, who was elected as first vice chairman of the Board. Buddy Hughes, a Lexington, N.C.-based home builder and developer, was elected as second vice chairman. And 2022 NAHB Chairman Jerry Konter, of Savannah, Ga., remains on the leadership ladder as the 2023 immediate past chairman.
