Mike Pressgrove, a long-time remodeler from Topeka, Kan., has taken the reins as the 2024 chairman of the National Association of Home Builders' (NAHB) Remodelers Council.
In his new role, Pressgrove wants to help remodelers take advantage of NAHB’s resources.
About Pressgrove
Before Pressgrove finished high school and joined the Air Force, he helped his father, an old-school carpenter who did everything by hand. After the Air Force, he spent a decade doing framing and finishing work before starting his own remodeling business in 1994.
“For many years it was just me and another guy,” Pressgrove said. He Incorporated in 2003 and created PDQ Construction.
Things kicked into a higher gear in 2004 when Pressgrove joined the Topeka Remodelers Council. Soon after, Pressgrove served as chairman of his local council, then chairman of the Topeka Area Building Association, and then president of the Kansas Building Industry Association.
As Chairman of NAHB Remodelers Council
In terms of what he hopes to achieve during his tenure at the NAHB Remodelers Council, Pressgrove returns to the importance of building the workforce of the future. Workforce is the top challenge for most remodelers, said Pressgrove.
“We started a student chapter at our local,” Pressgrove said. “I have three employees now who I found through that student chapter. One of them is a young woman who joined us as an intern just before COVID—one of the first students in our student chapter.”
That young woman is now his assistant office manager. She draws plans and is a key part of the operation. “She’s a great success story and an excellent example of why it’s so important to get young folks involved,” he said.
