The existing floor plan of this suburban Minneapolis home was extremely compartmentalized, giving it a small, closed-off atmosphere. Expanding beyond the established footprint, however, was not an option for Pure Design Environments, which was brought in to modernize the whole house.

They opted, wherever possible, for clear glass and acrylic materials, allowing views from one room to the next while maintaining separation. This also provided better exterior views, which the client had asked for.

Attention to detail is evident throughout all of the work as well. Patterns based on circles and squares carry through the house, from etchings on the glass partitions to a large circular soffit with a color-changing LED above the new tree trunk dining table. Pure Design Environments utilized a wide color palette, ranging from grey, purple, green, and rust in the living area to taupe and grey in the master suite.

The lighting in the downstairs powder room — which features a variety of colorful artwork and interesting wall textures — presented its own set of challenges thanks to ceiling ductwork that prevented the use of ceiling-mounted fixtures. Instead, Pure Design Environments installed an airplane cable track lighting system with yellow accent bulbs, emphasizing the shape and finishes of the given space.
