Design Awards: Gold Whole House - Roney Design Group/Bayside Building Construction

By Jonathan Sweet, Editor in Chief October 11, 2011
This article first appeared in the PR October 2011 issue of Pro Remodeler.

Whole House $300,000 to $750,000

South Pasadena, Fla.

Designer: Roney Design Group, St. Petersburg, Fla.

Remodeler: Bayside Building Construction, Treasure Island, Fla.

Interior Designer: Interior Design Consulting by Diana, Tampa, Fla.

When the owners of this waterfront Florida home purchased it, they went into it knowing the house needed to be updated and modernized if it was to become their primary residence, but that its location made the transformation worth the effort.

The goal was to transform the aging 1960 ranch-style home to a Tuscan-style villa, while also incorporating energy savings. The home’s new look would help bring it in line with other, more recent Mediterranean homes in the neighborhood.

The construction and design team also needed to undo a poorly designed 1980s addition that had created odd spaces and an L-shaped load-bearing wall. Although only 150 square feet of new living space was added, the entire home was updated and remodeled, with new finishes, windows and doors, flooring, plumbing, electrical and mechanicals.

The remodel also improved the exterior, with a new, well-defined entry to the home and an outdoor kitchen and covered lanai for entertaining.

The judges called the home a “great transformation from plain to home with style.”
