Design: The Golden Ratio Is a Myth

After doing some historical digging and surveying designers, architects, and artists, it’s easy to conclude that there’s no such thing as “The Golden Ratio,” Fast Company Design reports.

The myth says that the proportion that is most pleasing to the human eye has a ratio of 1.6180. The myth endured for centuries, and prominent artists such as Salvador Dali and Le Corbusier used it in their designs.

But remodelers need not worry whether the kitchen countertop they are installing or the new walk-in closet they are designing follows the golden ratio or not. Designers and artists today say they never use it and their products are still popular and well-loved.
