Facebook Update: Algorithm Change Prioritizes Video

Video posters should start paying extra close attention to these three ranking factors

By By James F. McClister July 17, 2019
This article first appeared in the July 2019 issue of Pro Remodeler.

As if you needed another reason to work video into your marketing strategy, Facebook has just announced (via blog post from product management director David Miller) that the platform is soon to introduce “a series of ranking updates” that will serve to further prioritize original videos.

The updates will not add ranking factors, but will, according to the post, increase the importance of the following three:

1] Loyalty and intent: Refers to videos that people seek out and return to again and again.

2] Video and viewing duration: Refers to videos that keep people watching, especially if they’re at least three minutes long.

3] Originality: Refers to videos that were made by the poster and add material value.
