1. Andersen

Andersen debuted for its A-Series windows the Easy Connect joining system, an interlocking system designed to simplify large window installations and reduce the number of installers needed. The system consists of factory-assembled window combinations—often, an awning and casement—fitted with fiberglass joining plates prior to jobsite arrival. Each combination slides into place in the rough opening, where the plates lock together to create a reinforced mull and one enormous window. Easy Connect has a rough opening maximum of 12 feet in one direction, with no maximum in the other. The fiberglass plates prevent thermal transfer and provide the strength needed to meet air, water, and structural pressure requirements.

2. Alside

Alside launched the 1700 and 1900 Series New Construction Vinyl Window Collection. These windows have class-leading PG/DP ratings while providing comfort and reduced energy costs, according to the company. The insulated glass packages create an effective thermal barrier by combining Low-E glass with a u-channel design warm-edge spacer system. They meet Energy Star requirements; have received performance certifications from AAMA, IGCC, and NFRC; and have a lifetime limited warranty.

3. The Bilco Company

StakWEL window well modules, made of injection-molded plastic, won’t rot like wood or rust like metal, according to a company rep. The 21-inch-tall modules from The Bilco Company anchor directly to the foundation, and each module interlocks easily with the next, forming a tight seal between the window well space and the soil. StakWEL satisfies the 2018 IRC building code requirements for emergency egress in finished basement areas. Each module includes a built-in handle and gusseted; UV-resistant and warrantied against manufacturing defects for five years.

4. Pella

For those desiring steel-like window styles, but also cost savings and better performance, Pella has a new offering. Eight anodized aluminum finish options are available in the firm’s latest line, Architect Series Reserve wood windows and patio doors. The new anodized finish comes in eight matte-metallic colors: black, dark bronze, extra dark bronze, light bronze, medium bronze, champagne, copper, and clear. Anodizing is an electrochemical process that converts the metal surface into a durable, decorative finish.

5. Indow Windows

Indow Windows interior window inserts, made from acrylic glazing and edged with a patented silicone compression tube, provide an alternative to replacement and traditional storm windows. Manufactured following a laser measuring of the window space, the inserts easily pop into place; a small D-ring helps release them for storage, though an Indow rep says most people opt to keep them in year round. When pressed into the window frame, the tubing compresses to hold the insert in place, sealing out heat, cold, and noise.

6. Hy-Lite

Hy-Lite introduced an operable awning window in its Home Designer Collection of decorative glass windows. They come in an opening size of 52-by-16 inches in Mission and Prairie styles, and a square 29-by-29-inch awning window is available in Mission, Prairie, and Baroque styles. The windows come in white, tan, or driftwood vinyl frames; they have coordinating screens, latches, fold-down handles, and anti-corrosion hardware. Shown is the awning transom window in Mission glass.

7. Screeneze

The Screeneze window screening system consists of an aluminum base and a vinyl cap that snap together, securing screen fabric and eliminating the need for spline or staples. The aluminum base must be installed on a timber built porch, and can be installed inside, outside, or in the center of a porch frame. Vinyl caps are tapped into place with a rubber mallet on top of the aluminum base and screen fabric. Once assembled, excess screen fabric can be cut off with a utility knife. Screeneze can be used on openings as large as 150 square feet without the help of posts. and is available in four colors and two lengths. Comes with a 10-year warranty.

8. MI Windows and Doors

It combines the look of classic wooden trim with the easier care and lower maintenance of a vinyl window. MI Brickmould is applied to the window frame after welding and framing the head and jambs; a sill nose finishes off the sill. Windows with Brickmould exterior are easy and efficient to install, per the firm.
